Welcome to the next edition of “Talk Tuesdays“! Today is the day that we post answers to questions that we’ve received either in our blog comments, from the shows we attend or emails. Come back every week and you’ll find the answers to those questions!

Q: You mentioned last month that there are some new glitter colors coming. Are they ready yet?
A: YES, they are! We have 6 new Pearls Glitter Glitz colors and 12 new Transparents Glitter Glitz colors! You can find them in the Store on the Glitter Glitz and purchase them in the Wheel 6-packs if you know you need them all! They are labeled as “Pearls”, “Transparents I” and “Transparents II”.

We’re adding a new section to our Talk Tuesdays! Our new Design Team members will be sharing tips and tutorials with you on their new experiences using our products! Our tutorial today is brought to you from Colleen. Great job Colleen!!

While I’m sure you’ve seen these little paper flowers, like the one on my card last week “A Friend“….I wanted to share with you how I made them! While they take a little time, they are super cute and can be made to match any project you are doing!! You’ll need to get your supplies ready before you start….so your shopping list should include: Ritzy Ditzy Glitz in your favorite color, Glitter Glitz in a matching color, Sheet music or other printed copy, scalloped punch, glue, brads, pretty flower centers and leaves, if you want them. Once you have all that…you’re ready to start!!

Talk Tuesday 1

First: Punch out circles, I used scalloped vintage sheet music for mine but you could use, dictionary pages, your child’s old artwork, scrapbook scraps…..

Talk Tuesday 2

Then: Spray lots, okay as much as you want, of Ritzy Ditzy Glitz, I used “Turquoise” on mine and the shimmer is really happy! Wait until dry.

Talk Tuesday 3

Next: Put glue on the edges of the scallops and sprinkle with lots of Glitter Glitz, I used “Lagoon” on mine! Really, look at how pretty that pile of glitter looks!! As you can see in the photo, I pierce mine and do several at once!

Talk Tuesday 4

This is what the edges look like all glittered…pretty huh?!

Talk Tuesday 5

When the glitter has dried (I cheated and used a heat tool), you’re going to stack at least five on top of each other and and put a small brad in the center of each one.

Talk Tuesday 6

Next, you’re going to crumple up each layer, carefully, pushing each layer toward the center of the flower….Guess what?…You’re almost done!

Talk Tuesday 7

Add a pretty center, anything you like and if you want to add a leaf…do that too! Looky….now you have beautiful flowers to use on your next project!!!

Talk Tuesday 8

This tutorial is my first tutorial ever! I hope it has been helpful to you and that you make lots of beautiful flowers! Please come back and show us the beautiful flowers you’ve made because we would LOVE to see yours! If you have any questions, helpful hints for more tutorials or need help with making your flowers…just let us know!!! Have Fun!! Hugs, Colleen

Trying to beat the winter blues I decided to create some really dazzling spring flowers using P K Glitz glitter, WonderFilm, Ritzy Ditzy Glitz, and a few other items!

I thought the flowers would be a beautiful accent to these tins that I purchased at the Dollar Spot in Target. I used attached the pattern paper to the tins using  1/2 inch Sticky Tape and then I put a strip of 3/8 inch Sticky Tape along the top edge and applied a coordinating glitter to the tape. For just a little more bling, I used my Quickie Glue pen and some glitter crystals to accent some of the patterns in the paper. For the final touch, I attached one of my Dazzling Flowers to a ribbon bow and attached it to the top of the tin using 1/2 inch Sticky Tape. Isn’t Sticky Tape so versatile? I just love it!

The pink and blue tins hold my distress inks

The orange tin holds my Colorbox Cat Eye inks

The green tin holds my templates and stencils

Supplies:
Glitter Glitz: Sea Mist, Mint Green, Tropical Rain, Crystal, Peach, Light Yellow, Cotton Candy, Light Pink (P K Glitz)
Ritzy Ditzy Glitz: Gold (P K Glitz)
WonderFilm (P K Glitz)
Sticky Tape: 1/2 inch, 3/8 inch (P K Glitz)
Quickie Glue Pen
E P Max: Crystal, Peach, Blue (P K Glitz)
Patterned Paper: Sweet Celebration (Bella Blvd)
Patterned Paper: Basics 101 (Creative Imaginations)
Flowers (Prima)
Ribbon (Hobby Lobby)

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner but you still have time to make that special someone in your life a handmade card.  I was recently at an Heirloom show in Grapevine, Texas and did a cute make ‘n take at the Paper Cut booth. Of course I thought it needed a little “glitz” so I brought it home and altered it a little. :)

I covered the heart with WonderFilm and added Crystal Glitter Glitz to give it a lot of sparkle. I then used my Quickie Glue pen and White Pearl Glitter Glitz to add random dots on the background. As a final touch I outline the circle at the top with my Quickie Glue pen and added Black Glitter Glitz. Now my card has the sparkle it really deserves!

My son recently visited the Ft. Worth Stockshow and he got to take a couple of friends with him. They really had a great time and I wanted to create a page that reflected the day.

Supplies:
Sticky Paper (P K Glitz)
Amethyst and Gold Ritzy Ditzy Glitz (P K Glitz)
Chinese Firecracker E P Max (P K Glitz)
Crystal Glitter Glitz (P K Glitz)

Cardstock (Prism)
Patterned Cardstock (Basic Grey)
Cardstock Stickers (Basic Grey)
Border Punch (Martha Stewart)
Mask (Tim Holtz)
Flower Die Cut (BGlad Papercrafts)
Embossing Ink (Ranger)
Self Adhesive Transparency (Grafix)

Have you tried our new Ritzy Ditzy Glitz? It now has color and is a fun way to add shimmer to your cardstock as well as texture. Before starting my layout, I placed a mask across the top third of my cardstock and spritzed with Ritzy Ditzy Glitz Gold and Amethyst then removed the mask to get this subtle design across the page. Next I punched a border from P K Glitz Sticky paper and embossed it using Chinese Firecracker E P Max.

To add a bit of sparkle to the title I pressed the letters into my embossing ink pad and added Chinese Firecracker E P Max before adhering to my layout.

For the flower, I die cut the bottom two layers from patterned cardstock then spritzed them with Gold Ritzy Ditzy Glitz. The third layer of the flower (white) was die cut from P K Glitz Sticky Paper and I added Crystal Glitter Glitz. The center of the flower is made using the Brad Technique. I used Chinese Firecracker E P Max for the center.

Where can you get all of these fabulous products? In our P K Glitz store of course! Just click on “Store” in the left hand column of the blog.

Diane became a fan of Ritzy Ditzy Glitz several years ago when she first purchased this product. We now have available “new and improved” Ritzy Ditzy Glitz! An instant shimmer is still achieved and now adds color! WOW!

There are 10 colors available in metallic and jewel tones. The quick drying property of this versatile product is amazing! Visit the store to check out the list of colors of Ritzy Ditzy Glitz!

Diane has played with this new formulated product and has some tips and pretty backgrounds to show you! Keep in mind that Diane lives in Indiana where they have snow and not much sunshine this time of year, so it may be difficult to see depending on your computer monitor. She’ll be posting actual samples using her backgrounds here soon so you’ll be able to see them in action!

Helpful tips and hints:

  1. The color does settle on the bottom, so shake well until the color is completely dispersed.
  2. Hold cardstock at a distance when spraying to get a uniform shimmery look.
  3. Press pump completely down to avoid splotches.
  4. Use a porous cardstock or material so that the spray stays put. Glossy cardstock will allow the spray to run (you may have a project for which you want that look), so keep that in mind.

The first sample is of Sapphire Ritzy Ditzy Glitz added to Ivory cardstock. It added color and shimmer (which was difficult to photograph) that transformed the ordinary solid colored cardstock into an elegant piece of cardstock.

In the next sample, the top piece of green cardstock has been sprayed with Gold Ritzy Ditzy Glitz. It gave this cardstock a WOW factor!

An effortless and fun technique to use Ritzy Ditzy Glitz is to get out those brass stencils or an overlay and create a pattern with the spray.

On the top example, a plastic overlay was used on light blue cardstock and sprayed with Sapphire Ritzy Ditzy Glitz. Diane sprayed it 3 – 4 times, waited a few seconds and sprayed again 3 – 4 times. You can spray it until you get the depth of color that suits you. On the middle example, the base was vanilla cardstock and sprayed with the Gold Ritzy Ditzy Glitz. The bottom example was on light blue cardstock with the Sapphire Ritzy Ditzy Glitz and a brass stencil.

What a fun product with many versatile functions. There are endless possibilities when playing with Ritzy Ditzy Glitz!

E P Max (Honeycomb; P K Glitz)
Glitter Glitz (Honeycomb, Crystal, White Pearl; P K Glitz)
WonderFilm (P K Glitz)

Embossing Ink (Inksenssials)
Embossing Machine (Epic 6; Quick Cutz)
Embossing Tool (Marvy)
Glue Pen —–
Snowflake Embossing Folder (Provo Craft)
Wooden Beads (Indus Trading)

Calendar Instructions:

Calendar Steps 1-2

Step 1: Run cardstock through embossing machine. Once the cardstock is embossed dust cardstock with Anti Static powder.

Step 2: Lightly swipe the embossing ink pad across the raised (embossed) areas of the cardstock.

Calendar-3-4

Step 3: Pour E P Lite embossing powder onto the cardstock. The E P Lite will only stick to the areas that you have covered with embossing ink.
Note: E P Lite is a translucent glitter embossing powder. This means that the color underneath will show through. I chose E P Lite Honeycomb for my project because it was complimentary to the color of my cardstock.

Step 4: With your heat tool, heat the E P Lite to melt the embossing powder. When finished adhere it to your background cardstock.

Step 5: At this point, you can either purchase a store bought calendar or you can make your own as I did. I used a digital calendar and inserted my own picture. I then printed it out and placed it on a mat prior to adhering to my background.

Calendar Closeups
Step 6: I used a die cuts to make my snowflakes and added glitter glitz to each of the flakes using my Quickie Glue Pen and Glitter Glitz.
I used Glitter Glitz Honeycomb, White Pearl, and Crystal.

Step 7: To make the feet, I rolled each wooden bead on my embossing ink pad then poured E P Max onto the bead. With the bead held by a wooden skewer I embossed each one before gluing to the bottom of my acrylic frame.

Pen Instructions:

Pen Supplies

Supplies:
Glitter Glitz (P K Glitz)
Sticky Tape (P K Glitz)
Coffee Filters
Pen
Plastic Drinking Straw
Scissors

Pen Steps 1 - 2

Step 1: Remove the end cap from the pen along with the pen refill.

Step 2: Begin to wrap Sticky Tape around the end of the refill. Do this several times.

Pen Steps 3-4
Step 3:
As you can see, the Sticky Tape forms a gasket so that the glitter will not leak out through the end of the pen. Replace refill into pen barrel.

Step 4: Cut the end of the drinking straw at an angle to form a “scoop”.

Pen Steps 5-6
Step 5: Pick up glitter using the scoop you just made

Step 6: With your pen refill placed back into the pen barrel, begin filling with glitter using the scoop.

Pen Steps 7-8
Step 7: When the pen barrel is completely full, replace pen cap.
NOTE: You may want to use some Crystal Lacquer to glue the pen cap closed so their is no chance that the glitter could spill out.

These pens can be made using any of our 72 Glitter Glitz colors!

I hope you have enjoyed this Calendar and Pen project idea! If you make one of your own, send us a picture or link to where we can see it. You never know – you just might be featured on our blog!

Easy Cards

Yes! There is still time to make your Christmas Cards with one of the P K Glitz Holiday Card Packages and the following easy steps. The kits can be ordered from the Store. The only items not included are the Glitter Glitz, Sticky Tape & Goat Hair Brush which can all be purchased in the Store too.

Easy Cards 1

Easy Step 1: Open the kit and remove the pieces. There is enough material to create 12 cards with the envelopes!

Easy Step 2: Using the pre-embossed top piece, attach the gold cord to the cardstock with WonderFilm “Lites” (Bulb shapes included in the package). Just peel off one protective side and apply over the cord. The WonderFilm actually holds the cord in place! Wrap the balance of the cord around to the back of the card and tape to hold.

Easy Cards 2

Easy Step 3: Either cut with a craft knife or just peel back the top part of the “Lite” socket liner. Use your choice of Glitter Glitz to coat this section and brush away any excess glitter.  (We used Gold here) Now, uncover one “Lite” (bulb) at a time and Glitz with your choice of color. Repeat until all the “Lites” are covered. (We used Clover here).

Easy Cards 3

Easy Step 4: The cover piece is ready to apply to the folded cardstock.

Easy Step 5: For just little more BLING, use a Quickie Glue Pen and go around the edge of the  cream cardstock with glue. Sprinkle with China Red Glitter Glitz. Card complete!!

May your Holidays be merry and bright!

Here’s a beautiful idea to add sparkle and shimmer to any festive table setting!

Holiday Place Card 1

Supplies:
Sticky Paper
Sticky Tape, 1/8″
Glitter Glitz

Powder Keg Embossing Powder
Leaf Punch
Glue Dots or Foam Squares
Cardstock in two colors

Step 1: Cut the cardstock pieces for the card. The lighter color will be 3″ x 4 1/2″ and the darker color will be 4 1/4″ x 5 1/2″. Punch 3 leaves from the Sticky Paper. Peel the protective covering from 2 of the 3 leaves. Using an assortment of Glitter Glitz, sprinkle over the exposed Sticky Paper adhesive. Brush the leaf after each color application to save the excess glitter. I used Buttered Rum, Egyptian Treasure, Poppy Jasper and New England Autumn colors.

Holiday Place Card 2
Step 2: Peel the protective covering from the last leaf. Sprinkle the Powder Keg Embossing Powder over the exposed Sticky Paper adhesive. Heat to emboss and set. I used the New England Autumn color.

Holiday Place Card 3

Step 3: Fold each of the cardstock pieces in half. Attach the leaves to the front of the light colored folded card using Glue Dots. Add a strip of the Sticky Tape along the bottom of the light colored card. Remove the tape liner and sprinkle with your choice of Glitter Glitz. Brush to remove the excess. Print or stamp the desired name.

Holiday Place Card 4
Congratulations! Your card is complete! Happy Holidays from P K Glitz!

The thing I love about WonderFilm is its versatility. So many different techniques can be used with this product and today I am going to show you another way to customize your projects using WonderFilm.

Supplies

Supplies Needed:
WonderFilm
Glitter Glitz
Goat Hair Brush
Stylus
Wooden Shape (Indus Trading Company)
Spoon

Step 1 2
Step 1:
In my post titled Silhouette and WonderFilm Tutorial I showed you how to create custom designs in your WonderFilm shape. I used this same technique on this wooden acorn to easily define the cap of the acorn from the base.
I used Chocolate, Cinnabun, Desert Sand,New England Autumn,  Not So Tarnished Copper, and Timber
Step 2:
With your stylus, begin drawing crosshatch lines into the already glittered WonderFilm. This will begin to remove the glitter and you will then start seeing lines in the cap of your acorn.

Step 3 4
Step 3:
Once you have completed your design you have now re-exposed the WonderFilm which means you must add another color. Completely cover the top of your acorn in the color of your choice.
I chose Crystal Glitter Glitz due to its holographic nature.

Step 5 6
Step 4:
Brush off excess glitter and return to jar.
You can see that the lines are now well defined and the pattern shows up quite well giving this piece character and texture.

Acorn Place Setting Holder

Once my acorn was complete, I adhered it to the front of my Place Setting Holder. Can you imagine how beautiful these would be setting all around a holiday table!

You can find the tutorial on how to make the Place Setting Holder HERE.

The holidays are now upon us so here is a quick little idea to turn an ordinary votive into something festive and fun!

Fall Votive Candle Supplies
Supplies Needed:
WonderFilm
Glitter Glitz
Goat Hair Brush
Small Spoon
Sticky Tape
Coffee Filters (optional)

Fall Votive Candle Steps 1 - 2
Step 1:
Punch or die cut a leaf shape from your WonderFilm, then peel the protective covering from one side of the WonderFilm shape.
With the sticky side against the glass, place your leaf onto the votive.

Fall Votive Candle Steps 3 - 4
Step 2:
With your image now on the votive, from one edge or corner, begin peeling off the protective covering. This will expose the adhesive in the shape of your die cut. Try not to touch the adhesive while working on this project.
To get a really nice looking fall leaf, I like to work with anywhere from 5 – 8 coordinating colors such as Chocolate, Pumpkin, Red Hot Chili Pepper, Buttered Rum, Gilded Grape Leaf, New England Autumn, Cinnabun,  and Egyptian Treasure

Fall Votive Candle Steps 5 - 6
Step 3:
With your first color, begin to “sprinkle” the color along the bottom third of the leaf. Do this by holding the spoon about 1 – 2 inches above your project and tap the spoon with your index finger. This will give a light spray of color without harsh lines.
When you are finished with your first color, use your goat hair brush to gently wipe away excess glitter. Make sure you do not go across the adhesive as this will cause the glitter to be adhered to the entire leaf.
Continue with your second color as you did with your first. Do this with each color until your leaf is completed.

Fall Votive Candle Steps 7 - 8
Step 4:
Once your leaf is complete, put a strip of Sticky Tape around the bottom of edge of the glass votive.
I am using 1/4 inch Sticky Tape.

Fall Votive Candle Steps 9 - 10
Step 5:
Remove the protective covering from the Sticky Tape and begin sprinkling your first color of Glitter Glitz onto the Sticky Tape. Brush off excess before adding your second color. Continue doing this until the Sticky Tape is completely covered.

Fall Votive Candle

Here is your finished votive piece. On the left you will see the votive when it is not lit and on the right when the candle is lit. Both versions yield a beautiful accent to your holiday table or gathering!

If you are like me, you have tons of brads but never in the color that you need. This is a quick little trick that will help you use up all of those extra brads that you have just laying around.

Tip 1: Powder Keg Embossing Powder
Silver 1 2
Step 1: Hold the tail of the brad with an alligator clip or clothes pin to avoid heating your fingers.
Step 2: Make sure your embossing tool is properly heated then place the top of the brad close to the end of the heat tool for about 15 seconds.
Step 3: Dip the heated brad into the colored embossing powder of your choice.
I used Powder Keg Gilded Grape Leaf

Silver 3 4
Your brad should be completely covered with embossing powder before proceeding with the following step.
Step 4: Hold the embossing tool below the brad and heat the head of the brad from the back side. It will only take 1 or 2 seconds of heat for the embossing powder to “light up” on the head of the brad. Once this happens, remove the heat tool quickly to avoid scorching or running of the embossing powder.

Silver 5
Here is your completed brad. What was once a plain and lifeless brad, is now a beautiful custom embellishment!

Tip 2: E P Max
Pink Brad 1, 2
Follow steps in the Powder Keg Embossing Powder technique only this time you will use E P Max.
I used E P Max Indigo

Pink Brad 3
As you can see this bright pink brad is now a sparkly Indigo blue!

Tip 3: EP Lite
Blue Brad 1, 2
Sometimes you may just want to add a little sparkle to an already colored brad. For this technique you will want to use E P Lite in the color of your choice.
I used E P Lite Squash Blossom

Blue Brad 3
As you can see, the color of the brad shows through while adding a touch of glitz using E P Lite Squash Blossom.

There you have it! Three different looks to one easy technique. What are you waiting for? Go get those unused brads and start customizing them for your next card or paper craft project!
